White Boxing Day

Hello everyone,

Hope you all had a good time giving and receiving season's greetings, and enjoyed a wonderful Christmas together with loved ones.

Snow came late this year but it arrived in fine style on Boxing Day in Ottawa, where we are vacationing with friends. It has covered all the eyes can see with a blanket of pristine whiteness. Now it feels like Christmas.

While we are basking in the warm glow of holiday wishes, here is a warm reminder to you that we will have a make-up class on January 7, 2007. I look forward to seeing all your well-rested, happy and eager faces again.

No Chinese Class on Dec. 10th, 2006

Dear all

I have tried to call, and got through some of you this evening, to tell you that we have had to cancel the Chinese class on Sunday due to a burst water pipe at the school.

A reminder to you that on December 17 we will have our last class before Christmas holidays. We will have an examination that day. Please don't forget to study and good luck everyone.

• 筆試─ 生活華語 (一) - (三) 課的生字、生詞、漢語拼音/ 注音
• 口試─ 老師將用一對一的問答方式進行

靜思語畫圖比賽 - 『盡本分、得本事！』

親愛的同學們

今天在學校舉行了靜思語的看圖作文比賽，老師好開心看見大家都很用心的在構思畫圖寫字。過程中，霜妮、永耀、昭盛和濟源共同構思作出了兩張傑作，看你們有的剪貼、有的塗顏色、有的負責整合在一起，忙碌中仍帶著微笑，老師看了好感動喔！繁騏本來嘟著嘴告訴老師他不會畫也不喜歡畫，於是我陪他坐在一起挑選了一句學過的靜思語，和他一起想想如何延伸出圖畫的意境，留下彩色筆給他，知道嗎？他最後還是畫出來了！

Bilingual News Flash - December 2006

Hello everyone,

We hope everyone has enjoyed November and is ready for December, the last month of the year.

As the year progresses, we pick up momentum in our activities and the agenda for the rest of the year follow:

1. Bamboo savings box
2. Dec. 3: Jing-Si Aphorism drawing and writing contest
3. Dec. 10: Teaching demonstration
4. Dec. 17th: Mid-term examination

1. Bamboo savings box
The main purpose of this exercise is to practice one of Master Cheng-Yen's teaching, that "drops of water make lakes, grains of sand build castles; small change makes big charity and hard work builds big success."

The pennies saved in the bamboo box will bring significant relief for those in need.

2. Jing-Si Aphorism drawing and writing contest (for all grades in the school)
Same as every semester, we have various contests going in the school, and I would like to post your works on our blog after each contest. So, do your best and come check out everyone's masterpieces!

3. The teaching demonstration
We have teaching demonstration for different grades to present to teachers and parents who are interested. Our class will present our demo on Dec. 10. It usually takes 30-40 minutes and we will present how we teach through Master Cheng-Yen's Jing-Si Aphorism. We welcome your participation and comments.

4. Mid-term examation
An examination will be held on Dec. 17, it will cover both writing and speaking. This is a good opportunity for us to gauge how much we have learned and progressed this year. Let's do our best and test ourselves. Good luck to everyone!

綿延慈濟心、人文情 ─ 多倫多人文學校響應竹筒歲月

◎零錢雖小 意義非凡

「零錢或許不多，但是意義是不同的喔！」雙語班劉芳玲老師在課堂上呼籲；喜見學生們排隊，很踴躍的投下他們的一份愛心。

還記得多倫多支會在今年五月舉行慈濟四十週年『見證慈悲、深耕人文』靜態展。

從竹筒歲月到現在全球慈善、教育、醫療、人文四大志業的活動裡，參與導覽的林校長就是在當時擬定了認養竹筒撲滿的構思。其初發心只為帶動全校師生一起體驗小零錢「粒米成籮，滴水成河」的大效用，募的不只是手中的小零錢，更是心中的一念善心。

◎成就愛種 綿延慧命

學校裡的一位家長蘇媽媽，看見孩子每個星期都記得帶零錢到學校，不禁感動的說：「是愛的感染吧！讓我終於了解『不以惡小而為之、不以善小而不為』；雖然我們家並不富裕，但是一個小小的存錢舉動，讓我從孩子身上看見了愛，我也要把這份愛放進心裡，為其他人的心靈帶來更多的歡喜和快樂，哪怕只有一點點，都要盡力而為！」

看著孩子們走到竹筒撲滿前，放入銅板，響起的叮噹聲和笑聲中，似乎啟發了每個人心中的那份愛心、善念，成就愛的種子，綿延希望的慧命！
